From last 11 years Tour-de-Kashmir a brainchild of well known cyclist of Valley, Reyaz Wani, has been the premier flagship event of cycling in the State. In the past , the event used to be held from Srinagar to Pahalgam only.
With a view to make the event more meaningful and make it Tour-de-Kashmir, Reyaz this year stressed to change the event route from Pahalgam to Gulmarg to make it full Valley circuit by involving all major routes in years to come.
“JKSDA stands for overall development and seeing them doing wonderful job, I decided to organize the event in collaboration with them. It will be a JKSDA event and would be held from Srinagar to Gulmarg. In the years to come, we have plans to organise at large scale covering all major routes like, Sonamarg, Pahalgam, Yousmarg, Dodapathri others,” said Reyaz.
“JK Bank has been the only sponsor of the event on previous occasions and I would request them to continue supporting it,” he added.
Giving details about the event, JKSDA joint secretary, Altaf-ur-Rehman said, “We are delighted with the gesture of CAJK and Reyaz Wani to give us opportunity to organise this major event from this year.”
“As winter is approaching, we have decided to include only top 25 cyclists in the event and also flag it off around 10:30 am from corporate office JK Bank. We will request JK Bank CEO and Chairman Mushtaq Ahmad for flag off of the race” he said.
