Department of Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir

A unique initiative–“Keep the Canvas Rolling” shall be launched at Zabarwan Park, Srinagar by Kashmir Art Quest on April 13th, which aims to bring together artists and audiences from around the world to engage with Kashmir and Kashmiri artists.

Together, though the language of art, they engage with creative practices and Kashmir, its art, culture and beauty. The project aims to achieve the emergence of Kashmir in the international art world like never before and brings together people from different nations and diverse backgrounds to think about Kashmir visually.

This is truly a first of its kind project not only in Kashmir but a unique collaboration between artists around the world. Over 200 artists from 18 cities in 12 countries will produce a single work of art. Artists from 18 cities around the world will work on single scroll of canvas (33ft. x 4ft.) and the canvas would travel around the world, rolled and shipped from city to city.

The final artwork will become a permanent public installation in Srinagar, Kashmir. The installation is intended to be on the “Boulevard Road” by the banks of Dal Lake – the first ever art installation in the landscape – which is also the main tourist hub in capital city Srinagar.
